The City of God will have a series and streaming sequel

Max announces the launch of City of God: The Fight Rages, 20 years after the release of Fernando Meirelles' film.

It is a shocking film which marked the beginning of the century. Fernando Meirelles shook the world with his painting of Brazil's favelas in The city of God (2002). More than 20 years later, the film will be entitled to a sequel, which will bring back several actors from the original, including Alexandre Rodrigues and Roberta Rodrigues. Fernando Meirelles is back as producer.

Titled City of God: The Fight Rages Onthe series will span 6 episodes and should be broadcast next August, on Max (exact date to be determined).

We will find Buscapé there (Alexandre Rodrigues), Lampião (Thiago Martins), Bérénice (Roberta Rodrigues), Melonhead (Kiko Brands) and Barbantinho (Edson Oliveira), two decades after the events of the film (which took place mainly in the 70's). The story of the series will therefore take place in the early 2000s. The precise pitch is not yet detailed but Warner Bros. speaks of a “sequel adapted from the literary work of Paulo Lins, which will follow the story of the characters of The City of God, starting with the work of the photographer Buscapé.”

City of God: The Fight Rages will use flashbacks The city of God to put certain plots in context.

The episodes will be directed by Ali Muritiba (New Bandits).
