Mission Cleopatra: the real heroes are Jamel Debbouze, Gérard Darmon and Édouard Baer (review)

“It’s going to be good. It’s going to be very good, even.”
Pathé recalls that the restoration work was important for Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. Shot in 35 mm, then post-produced digitally, the film was remastered from the original negatives not edited by Chabat and his teams. Which represents “nearly 300 reels of film. This is equivalent to redoing, not a “simple” restoration, but the entire post-production of the film, 20 years later,” specifies the studio. “This exceptional work combined artisanal film restoration techniques and Artificial Intelligence to improve the definition of certain period special effects and restore even more brilliance and precision to the image. Without forgetting the work on the sound, mixed in Dolby Atmos.

The firm, which is also preparing to release in a restored version the first live adaptation of the comics by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, Asterix and Obelix versus Caesarby Claude Zidi, finally specifies about this second part which had great success in theaters: “All the work was supervised by Pathé, the Pathé Foundation led by Sophie Seydoux, the Pathé Heritage Restoration team and carried out at the Hiventy Laboratory (TransPerfect) by the original technical team of the film: Laurent Dailland the Director of Photography, Thierry Lebon the Mixer and Cyril Contejean the Post-Production Director.”
