The Exorcist: William Friedkin wanted to haunt David Gordon Green after his death

Before disappearing, the director of the very first film in the horror saga expressed his strong opinion on this sequel project.

As soon as a new trilogy is announced The Exorcista rumor suggested that William Friedkin would be there. The filmmaker did not fail to quickly defuse this rumor by putting his cards on the table regarding this project which already did not excite him at all.

“There’s a rumor going around on IMDB that I’m involved in a new version of The Exorcist. This is not a rumor, it is an outright lie. There’s not enough money or motivation in the world to make me do this.”

In a tweet posted on August 7, 2023, the film critic Ed Whitfield shared Friedkin’s comments on the film David Gordon Green.

“Ed, this guy who made the new Halloween getting ready to remake my film The Exorcist. That’s right, my signature film is going to be taken over by the guy who directed Delirium Express. I don’t want to be there when it happens, but if the spirit world exists, I intend to haunt David Gordon Green and make his life hell.”

Which somewhat ridicules the enthusiasm of Gordon, who said he was curious to know the opinion of the legendary filmmaker on his film, even if he was never in contact with him. Especially since sequels are already being considered. Universal plans to continue its $400 million investment, even if Gordon is not expected to take over the reins of the project.

A movie The Exorcist: Deceiver should see the light of day in 2025, with all due respect to the ghost of Friedkin.
