The green promise: Alexandra Lamy wants to save her son condemned to death

“I love this kind of anti-heroine that everyone can identify with. We’re not in Marvels and superpowers,” said Alexandra Lamy.

Carole will try to free her son Martin from a death sentence in Indonesia. To overcome this, this disillusioned mother will lead a fight against palm oil operators, responsible for deforestation.

The Green Promise is an ecological thriller initiated by Edouard Bergeondirector ofIn the name of the earth (2019) with Guillaume Canet and Son of the earth (2012). In the press kit for his feature film, the filmmaker claims his ecological commitment through an audiovisual denunciation:

Producing this oil on the other side of the world turns out to be an ecological disaster. It involves massive deforestation, terrible for the local and global ecosystem – the primary forest is the lungs of our planet and a shield against global warming. It requires the massive use of chemical fertilizers and weedkillers to grow palm trees (…) It is also a human disaster for the indigenous peoples of tropical forests who find themselves expropriated from their ancestral lands.”

In the cast of this family drama, there is Sofian Khammes And Alexandra Lamyas Martin’s distraught mother, played by Felix Maoti. The actress focused on her character, the ecological and judicial commitment of a mother in distress:

I immediately liked the character: she’s a mother who faces huge lobbies to try to get her boy out of prison. She finds herself in a situation that is beyond her control, she receives blow after blow in the film (…) I love this kind of anti-heroine with whom everyone can identify. We’re not in Marvels and Superpowers.

The film encourages us to review everyone’s consumption, through everyday products, whether for food or maintenance.

I try to be a responsible consumer. Which sometimes caused me concern, because I love Nutella for example. At first, I thought that only Nutella contained palm oil. But, like Carole, I discovered that this oil – the most used in the world! – was everywhere, in all our products, from the kitchen to the bathroom, even the car. It’s crazy and it’s terrible.” said Alexandra Lamy.

The green promise will be released in theaters on March 27, 2024.
