The Killer: “I was salivating to play this kind of role”, says Michael Fassbender
The Prometheus actor plays a serial killer in David Fincher’s new Netflix film.
Four years after his role in X-Men: Dark PhoenixMichael Fassbender is back on the big screen. In between, the actor took the opportunity to concentrate on the other activity that punctuates his dual career: car racing. For his return, he will be featured in the next David Fincher, The Killer, a first preview of which was revealed at the end of August. The actor of Prometheus will play a relentless assassin who “begins to gradually develop an awareness between good and evil”specifies the synopsis.
“I was salivating at the idea of playing this kind of role,” he said to Empire. “There is so much suspense and intrigue. I love these types of films“, he added.
Before filming, Fassbender devoted ten weeks to his physical preparation to play the serial killer, and to learn how to assemble a weapon. He also learned about the backgrounds of real killers to “trying to understand the brain of a sociopath”. Of course, the actor also read the French comic of the same name, The killer, created by Matz (screenplay) and Luc Jacamon (drawings) in 2013. “There was a lot to learn from this comic, I liked it”he concluded.
David Fincher also praised him in the pages of the American magazine, welcoming his involvement in slipping into the skin of the character. “He can hold many contradictory things in his mind and his eyes provide access to them”, supports the director. He also highlights his perfectionism: “he’s a bit like Daniel Craig on this point, saying ‘I can do better’ (…) He has this gift as an actor, attached to an incredible discipline”.
The Killer will be available on Netflix from November 10, 2023.
