The Last of Us 3: will there be a sequel to the famous video game?
Co-creator Neil Druckmann gives an answer… which encourages optimism.
As filming begins for season 2 of the series The Last of Uswe already know that it will be adapted from the video game The Last of Us Part II, released in 2020 on consoles. But four years later, no trace on PS5 of a Last of Us 3. And for good reason, co-creator Neil Druckmann reveals that nothing has really been done at the moment.
“If we never manage to start again, if we don’t make another opus, it doesn’t matter, we will have ended on a good ending point“, attests Druckmann in this video Grounded II: The Making of The Last of Us Part II. “The last bite of apple, and then, the story is over. The advantage of working within the Naughty Dog studio is that we are not obliged to make a third game. Of course, they would like us to make another Last of Us, but the management leaves us free. If we are passionate about another idea, they will support us. We are in a very privileged position. And never take that for granted.”
Therefore, no Last of Us part III ?
Not so fast! Neil Druckman immediately tempers and reveals:
“For years I’ve been wondering if there’s a concept for a third game, a good idea… I couldn’t come up with the concept. But recently that changed. I haven’t decided yet. story, but I have a concept that, for me, is as exciting as number 1 and as exciting as number 2. It’s a little bit of a thing, but it has this throughline that works with the others . So I have a feeling there will probably be one more chapter to this story…”
Certainly the success of the series encourages Neil Druckman and the studio to extend the adventure. So that The Last of Us is a long-term future on HBO.
