The Lord of the Rings is already preparing a season 3

Patrick McKay and JD Payne are working on the sequel to the Amazon show, Rings of Power.

Season 2 of Rings of Power hasn't been released yet, but it seems like there's no stopping Patrick McKay And JD Paynea tandem of screenwriters at the helm of the prequel to Lord of the Rings.

Upon its release in 2022, the series rose to the top of the platform's rankings Amazon Prime. This success was culminated in a three-year contract signed between the two creators and the parent company, which allows them, at the same time, to launch their own company, 10:40 PM Productions, reveals The Hollywood Reporter. It is in this context that the two screenwriters, who had been in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA last year, began to outline the narrative arcs for a third season which has not yet been officially ordered.

Rings of Power: “Season 2 will be much darker”

Last year, the actors Owain Arthur And Max Baldry announced a season 2 to us “much darker”. If for the moment the writers' room of season 3 has not yet come together, there is no doubt, this third part will be carried by the hopes that Amazon has placed in it. Vernon SandersDirector of Television at Amazon says:

“We continue to be amazed by the breadth and scale of their (Patrick McKay and JD Payne) vision and the enormous global success of the first season of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power record breaking. We can’t wait for Prime Video customers to experience the epic adventure and high-stakes drama that JD and Patrick continue to bring to season two and beyond.”

Remember that the first season, which the duo had scripted and led as executive producers, had made the show the most watched series on the platform, 4th in the Nielsen rankings (which ranks American streaming figures), reawakening a fantasy momentum slowed down a little by the end of Game Of Thrones.

While waiting to see what the showrunners imagine for Middle Earth in a third part, and season 2, expected this year, the first eight episodes of Rings of Power are available on Amazon Prime.
