The Mandalorian & Grogu, filmed in 2024, will be the next Star Wars film

Five years after The Rise of Skywalker, the Far Far Away saga returns to theaters.

Baby Yoda is going big! After spending the last few years developing his universe on television, Star Wars will return to cinemas very soon. And logically, this in the form of a link between the small and the big screen. Lucasfilm today announced the start of construction on The Mandalorian & Groguofficial title of the next Star Wars film.

Mentioned for some time, this project for a cinematic sequel to the Disney plus series is therefore coming to fruition. The studio confirms that production will launch this year, “current 2024“, without further details.

The Mandalorian & Grogu embark on new adventuresteases Lucasfilm, which reveals in passing that Jon Favreau will be the director of the film produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni.

“I loved telling stories set in the rich universe created by George Lucas. The prospect of bringing The Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to film is extremely exciting” welcomes Jon Favreau.

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, adds that “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have introduced two much-loved new characters to Star Wars, and their new storyline is perfectly suited to the big screen.”

First film Star Wars in the cinema since The Rise of Skywalkerin 2019, The Mandalorian & Grogu will mark the start of the franchise’s comeback in theaters. Three other films are currently in development at Lucasfilm, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold and Dave Filoni.

No casting names have been mentioned yet, but we imagine that Pedro Pascal will be. The Mandalorian & Grogu should be released in 2026, a date still subject to change.
