The new Superman has found his villain: it will be The Engineer!

South American star María Gabriela De Faría has been cast to play Angela Spica in the upcoming Superman: Legacy film.

Now that Superman: Legacy is sure to be released in summer 2025 and filmed next year, James Gunn can validate its casting.

Deadline announces that Maria Gabriela De Faría was chosen to play the new DC villain who will face the Man of Steel. It will be Angela Spica, who appeared for the first time in The Authority #1, the comic released in May 1999. His powers are the result of replacing his blood with a metallic liquid filled with tiny machines called nanobots, giving him the ability to change shape and protect himself with liquid metal. A sort of ultimate T-1000 if you like.

The Engineer is therefore a member of the superhero team The Authoritywho will be entitled to his own film in the wake of Superman: Legacy. Maria Gabriela De Faría therefore seems set to stay for a while in the DC Universe.

But who is she? The Venezuelan actress became known in Spanish-speaking children’s programs from the Nickelodeon group. She was the star of Isa TKM And Yo soy Frankyin Colombia.

In recent years, she has made a notable appearance in Deadly Classthe series adapted from the eponymous comics.

Superman: Legacy will be released on July 9, 2025 in France. Note that beyond Angela Spica, Lex Luthor will play a central villain role.

Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story, but will tell “the fragile balance that Clark Kent, aka Superman, must find between his Kryptonian origin and his life as a human.” David Corenswet will play the title role opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
