The OA season 3? One of the co-creators is “sure it will happen one day”

Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij have all five seasons in mind and hope to be able to finish their story at some point.

In an interview given to our colleagues at Cinemateaser for the release ofA Murder at the End of the WorldBrit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, the creators of The O.A., look back at the brutal end of the series, canceled by Netflix after two fascinating seasons. “ It wasn’t easy. At all. When Netflix made the decision not to continue with us, we really didn’t expect it », assures Batmanglij. “ Maybe it was naive on our part, but I think even the people we worked with at Netflix didn’t understand. We were offered to make a film to close the series. But we didn’t want that – it wasn’t the project of The O.A.. This decision did us good, we regained power over our history. We didn’t sacrifice it. For us, it was also a way of respecting those who loved these characters. We were asked to botch our story, to sell it off. To write an ending to hide the fact that we were stopped in mid-flight (…) If we have to start again The O.A.we will do it well and in good conditions. »

Time is on our side », Marling continues. “ When I see the return of Twin Peaks years later and the freedom with which Lynch seizes his universe, I see a light there. This means that nothing is ever quite finished. »

Nothing concrete then, but Zal Batmanglij promises that they “tboth of us really want to finish The O.A.. And I am certain that it will happen one day. The five chapters are in our heads. We know where the story should go. You just have to find the time and the right place to make them exist. » Fingers crossed that interested channels and streamers don’t take too long to make themselves known…
