The scores of the 2024 César winners at the French box office

Five films awarded Friday recorded more than 1 million admissions.

In the wake of the 2024 César ceremony, ComScore published a ranking of awarded films based on their number of wins, to analyze their box office success.

The two who won the most prizes, Anatomy of a fall And The Animal Kingdom, are millionaires at the French box office: the first has even exceeded a million and a half admissions since its release in January. Initially arriving on the big screen on August 23, 2023, Justine Triet’s film, which had already won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes festival, reached 1 million tickets in one month, then it stopped at 1, 2 million before being released again in theaters in January, when its nominations for the César and Oscars began to fall. It has since attracted 300,000 more spectators, and it is now available in 292 theaters (compared to 379 during its initial release). It received no less than six César trophies, including best film and best director.

Arriving in 427 cinemas last October, Thomas Cailley’s film, which received six Césars, took six weeks to cross this symbolic bar. Word of mouth was positive for this fantastic story with stunning special effects to create half-human, half-animal creatures.

Three other films on the list also attracted more than a million French people to cinemas: I will always see your facesby Jeanne Herry (who also received the César des Lycéens a few hours ago), as well as the diptych The three Musketeersby Martin Bourboulon, whose first opus, D’Artagnanwas seen by 3.4 million people, and its sequel Milady2.5 million.

Among all the works that received a César on Friday, Love and the foreststhe intimate drama carried by Virginie Efira and Melvil Poupaud, was seen by nearly 700,000 curious people, and The Goldman Trial by 366,438 people, the biggest success of its director, Cédric Kahn, since A better lifewhich came close to 500,000 vouchers exchanged in 2012. Simple like Sylvainthe film by Monia Chokri which won the prize for best foreign film, is also above the 100,000 admissions mark, approaching 300,000 tickets sold.

Junkyard Dogs, Linda wants chicken, Olfa’s Daughters And Marguerite’s Theorem all attracted around 100,000 spectators in French cinemas. They can now be seen on VOD and/or streaming, notably on First Max.
