The sequel to Remember Last Summer will have a lot of easter eggs

Screenwriter Leah McKendrick, for example, promises a nod to a famous line from Jennifer Love Hewitt.

After a trilogy of films in the late 1990s and a series reboot on Amazon Prime Video, the franchise Remember… last summer will see a sequel piloted by the screenwriter Leah McKendrick and the director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (If you avenge me…). This new film has been in development since 2014 and has passed through several hands, including those of Mike Flanagan who wanted to do a reboot of the original novel from the 1970s.

Finally, it’s the duo McKendrick/Robinson who will take care of it. Asked by Screen Rant, the screenwriter promises that she will make this film according to the rules of the art and that she thinks of all the fans from the first hour not to disappoint. So she promises that, among all “easter eggs” that there will be in this sequel, the famous replica of Jennifer Love Hewitt “What are you waiting for” will be reused.

“I will tell you that your most iconic favorite line from the original will be brought back for the old school fans. I still think about you. I’m one of you. The film is safe in my hands. He is safe in Jen’s hands. We’re living a dream working on this film, which will have so many easter eggs and winks addressed to early fans… I hope we don’t disappoint you”, she explains.

The major horror franchises are experiencing more and more “legacy sequels”, that is to say direct sequels to the original films, but taking into account the time that has passed since. Like in the latest movies Scream or the new ones Halloween, it’s about introducing new characters to the universe while bringing back the original cast. This is the case here since Jennifer Love Hewitt And Freddie Prinze Jr. will be back in the next installment of the franchise.

No further information has been revealed regarding the casting, filming or release of this future Remember… last summer.
