The director of Crimes of the Future signs a very personal work with Les Shrouds, released in a few months at the cinema. After a Cannes screening?

Pyramide Distribution has just delivered the first official information on The Shroudsof David Cronenberg. Filmed last year by the filmmaker of Flywith Vincent Cassel And Diane Kruger in the main roles, this intimate and fantastic drama will be called in France The Shrouds. It will be released in France on September 25, 2024.

Here is its synopsis: Karsh, 50, is a renowned businessman. Inconsolable since the death of his wife, he invents a revolutionary and controversial system, GraveTech, which allows the living to connect to their deceased loved ones in their shrouds. One night, several graves, including that of his wife, are vandalized. Karsh sets out to find the culprits.

To embody its protagonist, who is actually inspired by his own personCronenberg having been terribly affected by the death of his wife Carolyn, in 2017, the filmmaker again called on Vincent Cassel, whom he had already directed in Shadow Promises (2007) and A Dangerous Method (2011). Léa Seydoux was to give him the answer, shortly after having participated in his Crimes of the futurebut the French actress explained that she finally said “no” to the Canadian director because she found “weird” to hire two French actors to film in English. Cronenberg then hired German actress Diane Kruger.
