The Social Network 2: David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin discuss a sequel

The director still remains extremely cautious.

Almost 15 years after the release of the first part, crowned at the Oscars, the director David Fincher and its screenwriter Aaron Sorkin are considering making a sequel to The Social Network. A project that has been circulating for some time, and if Fincher confirms that The Social Network 2 is clearly a possibility, he is frankly hesitant. Asked by the English newspaper The Guardian about his next project after the release of The Killer (in November on Netflix), the filmmaker responds soberly:

“Aaron (Sorkin) and I are discussing it, yes… But, uh… it’s a bag of knots.”

Implied, the project is far from simple to bring to fruition and risks never being done. Besides, David Fincher admits in passing to having “trouble knowing what the public wants.” Then he emphasizes when talking about his future: “I never know where I’m going and besides, I like being lost”.

Aaron Sorkin had mentioned The Social Network 2 (via AP Entertainment) in 2019 and seemed more optimistic then: “I knew more about Facebook in 2005 than I do today, but I know enough to know that there should be a sequel. A lot of very interesting and dramatic things have happened since the end of the film, with the settlement of the trial of the Winklevoss twins and Eduardo Saverin…”
