The World After Us: but why does the QR code hidden in the film take you to a haunted place?

He appears furtively during a news flash, and the link to which he directs us is perplexing…

The most attentive in front The World After Us may have noticed it: in the 34th minute, while the television feed returns for a few seconds with a news flash from the CNN channel, we can discover a QR code hidden in the map of the United States, at the Kentucky level. And the site to which it links is that of the Mercer County tourist office, in the same state, and more precisely on the page of an abandoned amusement park. Lake Shawnee Amusement Park (which has its Wikipedia entry) was opened in 1926 and closed 62 years later.

On the page, we can read that the place is supposed to be haunted, even “ damn “. The tourist office even offers visits at certain times of the year for the bravest. The history of the place is sordid, since the three children of the owner of the land on which it was built were killed by Native Americans in 1785. The father then wanted revenge and himself murdered many natives…

Then an entrepreneur bought the land and opened the now abandoned park. Two people drowned there and a young girl lost her life on an attraction.

But what does this have to do with The World After Us ? A priori, absolutely none. The QR code being more difficult to find, the director Sam Esmail (also creator of Mr. Robot) might have left a clue about his next project. It must be admitted that the past of the Lake Shawnee Amusement Park could make a good film or series scenario… For the moment, Esmail has not communicated on the meaning of the QR code.
