The Zone of Interest starts stronger than Argylle at the French box office on its first day

The A24 film of Jonathan Glazer terrace the spy Argyle of Matthew Vaughn at the French box office on its first day, despite 340 fewer copies than the checkered blockbuster. Leo, the fabulous story of Leonardo da Vinci dominates the cumulative previews, and the horror film Amelia’s Children brings up the rear.
The Area of Interest comes (slightly) at the top of the first day admissions ranking with 26,512 tickets registered (without previews) for 260 copies. Taking them into account (which adds 18,490 tickets to its counter), the historical drama is approaching 50,000 interested.
The film is intriguing with its problem: how to inject humanity a few steps away from the unspeakable? Filmed in Auschwitz, it was a psychological challenge for Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a fall) And Christian Friedel (Babylon Berlin) in the approach to their character: in 1943, the commander of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss lives with his wife Hedwig and their five children in a house which suggests an idyllic setting, while they live at the gates of the camp concentration.
To compare, Saul’s son of László Nemesa drama dealing with the same subject, had for its first day, signed 11,022 with a good average of 73 countermarks out of its 151 entries.
The standoff between Henry Cavill and Sandra Hüller
Argyle follows the 2023 Cannes Grand Prix with 23,336 people interested in the crew cut ofHenry Cavill touched by the legs of Dua Lipa during an acrobatics. The blockbuster has a low average of 39 tickets out of its 600 copies. This performance does not dethrone the triumph of another spy of Matthew Vaughn : King’s Man First Mission. Released in December 2021, the film reached 74,861 admissions for its first theatrical debut (and even 100,000 counting its previews), during its opening day – it signed an average of 210 tickets out of 503 copies. At the end of the run, the British director’s latest feature film had approached a million admissions.
Horror & Animation
Amelia’s Children closes the top 3 with a modest attendance of 6,925 entries, but unlike its competitors, has no previews. The horror film still graces the podium. Other projects “Iberian-horrific” cannot say the same, for example, Abuela by Paco Plaza, released in April 2022, achieved 5,638 admissions with an average of 55 countermarks out of its 172 copies.
In a very different genre is just behind the scary Amelia, the adorable Leo. The animated film Leo, the fabulous story of Leonardo da Vinci occupies fourth place with 6,125 spectators. The animated feature film marks a break with the trio in the lead, since it records an average of 16 tickets out of its 375 copies. Nevertheless, the project remains the best start in the filmography of Pierre-Luc Granjon.
