This Game of Thrones scene that made Hannah Waddingham claustrophobic

Five years after the end of the cult HBO series, the actress who played Septa Unella recounts a filming memory that deeply marked her.

If in real life Hannah Waddingham And Lena Headey are like girlfriends, the same cannot be said in the fantasy series Game Of Thrones. They play Septa Unella and Cersei Lannister respectively, two women who have a visceral hatred for each other.

Without hard feelings, therefore, when to take revenge for the humiliation done by the Septa to Cersei (the memorable walk of shame of season 5), the latter inflicts on her the horrible torture of waterboarding – the simulation of drowning. A not very pleasant moment which visibly left marks on its performer. “I wasn't prepared for Game of Thrones“, says Hannah Waddingham.

Invited by Stephen Colbert's late show, the actress explained that the filming of this scene lasted a total of 10 hours – during which Lena Headey (Cersei) continually poured wine on her face. Result of the races: a simulation that was no longer a simulation and chronic claustrophobia.

Moreover, this was not the first time that the British actress spoke openly about this experience. In the show Collider Ladies Night, Hannah Waddingham had already declared that this scene was in second place on the podium of the worst moments of her life, immediately after giving birth.

Lena was embarrassed to pour liquid on my face for so long, and I couldn't take it anymore. But in those moments, we say to ourselves 'Do you deliver your performance and have to live with it? Or do you chicken out and leave', That's not what I signed up for.

And yet, the actress escaped the worst. Originally, a scene of rape committed by Gregor Clegane, nicknamed The Mountain, was planned. But the controversy surrounding a similar scene with Sansa Stark forced the writers to revise the script at the last minute.

I think they changed the script while I was in the air, on my way to Belfast, because suddenly I was sent new information saying I would need a waterproof top. At first I thought they had sent me the wrong text.”

Now that Game Of Thrones is behind her, we will soon find her on the poster of The Fall Guy alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, released in France on May 1, 2024
