Thunderbolts: filming date revealed by Wyatt Russell

Director Jake Schreier says it will not be a sequel but a film that stands on its own.

In a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, Wyatt Russell announced the start of filming of Thunderboltswhich Marvel had to postpone because of the writers’ and actors’ strike, for spring 2024. He will return to his role of John Walker, aka US Agent, the Captain America of the dark side that we discovered in the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. “There is so much more to do with John. I’m so lucky to be able to work with the kind of talent I’m going to work with when Thunderbolts will start in March or April“, announcement Wyatt Russell.

This new MCU team film will be a bit like Suicide Squad from Marvel, since it features several anti-heroes presented in previous films or series. Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh And David Harbor will return in their respective roles as the Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova and Red Guardian, the latter two being introduced in Black Widow. Olga Kurylenko plays Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen plays Ghost (introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp). This team will be headed by Countess Valentina Alegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Nick Fury’s feminine inclination. Even Harrison Ford will be there playing the role of General Thaddeus Ross, aka the Red Hulk.

Steven Yeun will play Sentry in the Marvel Universe

In an interview for the media ComicBookdirector Jake Schreier explained that this new film had been thought of as a plot in its own right, which will be sufficient in itself.

I wouldn’t consider it a sequel at all, we don’t talk about it that way, and we’ve never really approached it that way. (…) I think there’s a story to be told about a group of characters who can relate to each other in a certain way, or who have experienced certain things, and we’re going to address that”, he explains.

In the age of the multiverse, where all Marvel films and series are linked and the characters interconnected, Thunderbolts would almost be a parenthesis if it is accessible to an audience who is not necessarily an MCU specialist. “You can come, and if you’ve seen this stuff, then great. If not, there will still be a complete story told in a film that will stand on its own, of course, while still being part of the overall storyline”, declares Jake Schreier. Thunderbolts is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2025.

Thunderbolts: “It’s time to make a good Marvel movie,” says Wyatt Russell
