Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man Trials Look Like a Kung Fu Movie

Shirtless, Spider-Man beats up the bad guys.

Tobey Maguire will return this evening in the first Spiderman of Sam Raimi. The opportunity to review his tests for the Sony blockbuster, quite surreal.

Published in 2008 on YouTube, the video shows the actor shirtless (just to show off his muscles?), beating up a few bad guys who were planning to steal a lady’s bag. And apart from a small spectacular demonstration of force (what a throw!), the whole thing looks more like a kung-fu film than a feature film dedicated to Spider-Man!

Before becoming the quality blockbuster that we know, Spider-Man evolved a lot, both in terms of his scenario than its designs. We know from other preparatory videos that the mask of the Green Goblin was for example much scarier originally than the one ultimately worn by Willem Dafoe – which still remains effective!
