Trainspotting: Ewan McGregor loves showing his kids the toilet scene

Remember: it was 1996, Ewan McGregor was a junkie bathing in the “world’s dirtiest” toilets…

Trainspotting, the cult film of the 1990s, marked a whole generation of spectators through its portrait of unbridled Scottish youth, caught in the hell of drugs and misery. In the casting, we found Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlton or Kelly MacDonald, who became stars overnight thanks to this global success. A sequel was released 20 years later, in 2017 to be precise.

Ewan McGregor shares how Terry Gilliam shook him up

Guest of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Ewan McGregor says he loved showing his children a particular scene from the film: the one in which his character, bloated, absolutely has to find a toilet. The closest place is, of course, “the dirtiest toilets in Scotland…”: “I was not present when my daughter Clara saw Trainspotting for the first time. But I used to show them the bathroom scene for fun, when they were younger. It’s quite a unique situation for a father to show his children pictures of him going to the bathroom.

If this scene tended to make his daughter laugh, she nevertheless had an aversion to one of the actor’s other films, Red Mill ! : “I have a memory of me that shows Red Mill ! to my daughter when she is 9 years old. I start the film, but I immediately hear him screaming and crying. I come to see her to ask her if I should stop the film but she tells me ‘No!’” he says during a masterclass about his career.

Ewan McGregor took the opportunity to come back to his collaboration with Danny Boyle, with whom he collaborated on Trainspotting 1 & 2 and on Little murders between friends two years ago:He was my first director. I felt like “her” actor and that’s exactly what I wanted to be. He will always be important to me.

The Kenobi series with Ewan McGregor will not have a season 2
