Twelve years after Drive, Ryan Gosling plays a stuntman again in The Fall Guy (trailer)

Under the direction of David Leitch (Bullet Train) and for the beautiful eyes of Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow, Jungle Cruise), this time.

Universal has just shared the first poster and trailer for The Fall Guyadaptation for the cinema of the hit series from the 1980s, The Man Who Fallen. Produced by David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Bullet Train…) from a scenario of Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3), it will especially bring back memories to fans of Drivesince we find its star there, Ryan Gosling, in the shoes of a stuntman. At his side, no Carey Mulligan, but another popular actress with whom he will visibly have a romance: Emily Blunt.

“Bringing these two actors together was obvious”, tells us producer Kelly McCormick on the occasion of the posting online of this trailer of more than three minutes, where we see Gosling performing a series of stunts, but also being put in danger off film sets when the star of one of the action films for which he is supposed to be the understudy (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) sees his life threatened by thugs. Note that this project to adapt The Man Who Fallen in blockbuster mixing action and romance was already under study before the success of Drive : in 2010, it’s Martin Campbell (The Mask of Zorro, Casino Royale…) who should have taken care of it. Then McG (Charlie and his funny ladies) wanted to take over for a film starring Dwayne Johnson.

Finally arriving at The Fall GuyDavid Leitch wanted to pay tribute to the profession of stuntman, which he practiced himself before moving on to directing. “The idea is to never break the illusion that Ryan is doing his own stunts, he explains to us. Because if we no longer believe in it as a spectator, the film collapses. The Fall Guy is full of real, old-fashioned stunts, not digital special effects. There is obviously a little meta side but we tried not to push it too hard, for the good of the project. Which does not, of course, prevent us from glorifying the work of the real stuntmen on set.” To read the rest of the interview, click here.

The Fall Guy will be released in cinemas on February 28, 2024.
