Vice-Versa 2 is already the biggest box office success of 2024

The Pixar animated film has overtaken Dune 2 after an exceptional second weekend at the US box office.

After a historic launch ($154 million), Vice-Versa 2 confirmed its success at the US box office. The latest Pixar raked in the sensational sum of $100 million across the Atlantic in its second week. River recipes, which allow Vice-Versa 2 to achieve the 7th best second weekend in US box office history (behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens; Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War; Black Panther, Jurassic world And Avengers) and downright the best score of all time for an animated film at the same time. There is no longer any doubt that Vice-Versa 2 will pass the billion dollars.

Besides, Vice-Versa 2 is already number 1 of the year 2024!

After only eight days of release, the emotionally-charged feature film has doubled Dune 2 at the US box office, with 355 million dollars (compared to 282 for Denis Villeneuve’s film at the end of his career). Vice-Versa 2 is even already the biggest success of the year at the global box office, with 724 million dollars in earnings across the globe (711 million for Dune 2).

No one can keep up with such a pace, even if Bad Boys: Ride or Die wows, with a solid second position at $19 million after three weeks across the Atlantic. The film grossed $147 million in North America and approximately $250 million worldwide.

We will note in the rest of the ranking the good score of Bikeriders by Jeff Nichols. The biker film starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy arrives in the top in third place with $10 million in revenue.

Finally, Yorgos Lanthimos manages to carve out a small place for himself in the landscape. His surreal comedy Kinds of Kindness, which passed through Cannes, grossed $350,000 over the weekend in the USA. An impressive score for a release (very) limited to only 5 theaters (an average of $70,000 per screen, the highest average per screen in 2024).
