Vince Gilligan is really done with Breaking Bad, there will be no more spin-offs

No, there will be no “Heisenberg Jr” series.

10 years ago, Walter White finished breaking Bad in an unprecedented crash on the small screen. One of the most beautiful finales in series history, followed by one of the most cult spin-offs, Better Call Saul. Celebrating this 10th anniversary of “Felina”, the creator Vince Gilligan explains that he is certainly done with the saga. He confides in an interview with Variety:

“Every now and then I find myself thinking about these characters, dreaming about what might have happened to Walt’s family after that finale. Anna Gunn and RJ Mitte are such wonderful people playing such interesting roles that I can’t help but wish for a happy ending for them. When breaking Bad ends, it’s not a very happy ending for these characters at all, but it is shown that their lives continue. I would like to believe that things are getting better for them. I would hate the idea of Walt Jr. following in Walt’s footsteps into the crime business. This is probably the kind of thing someone will come up with in 10 or 15 years – Walter Jr. as an Albuquerque crime lord, succeeding where his father failed. I can pretty much guarantee right now that I have no interest in that happening.”

No, there shouldn’t be a Heisenberg Jr series.”It’s extremely unlikely” smiles Vince Gilligan. “The only interesting thing about this idea is working with RJ Mitte again because he’s a wonderful actor and a lovely guy. But it would be really depressing to do that. That would be a bad lesson from the show, if there are lessons to be learned from it.”

After 62 episodes of breaking Bad63 episodes of Better Call Sauland a Netflix movie, El Camino, wrapping up Jesse’s story, the creator is done with the franchise. He has no plans to return or do any other spin-offs. If he follows in the footsteps of Walter White, it is because his career will have hit rock bottom:

“To be completely honest, if I get screwed with my new series and then the one after that, and no one wants to see me anymore and everyone wants breaking Bad… who knows ! Maybe we’ll see more clearly how to do something else in the future in this universe… But what I’d really like to do is put that behind me. This is my life’s work. breaking Bad And Better Call Saul ! It will be the first thing engraved on my tombstone, and I am very proud of it. Of course I wonder if there are more stories to tell, but I don’t want to push this horse to death.”

Vince Gilligan already has another series in production. A great Apple TV+ sci-fi series starring Rhea Seehorn (formerly of Better Call Saul). “There is no crime or meth”, laughs Gilligan. The only thing in common: the action will still take place in Albuquerque!
