Very big popular success of the platform, Virgin River seeks to expand its territory. According to Deadline, a new prequel series Virgin River is in development at Netflix.

This spin-off would be a origin story which would return to the recent revelation of Mel’s father. The story would center on Mel’s late mother, Sarah, and her love affair with Everett Reid, who is now known to be her biological father. How did it happen ? The showrunner of Virgin RiverPatrick Sean Smith, is making history right now.

In the Christmas special that aired last year, Everett was played by John Allen Nelson, at an advanced age. Sarah has never been played on screen yet. Casting of actors to play young Sarah and Everett is underway.

This prequel series will be linked directly to season 6 of Virgin River, which has just started filming in Vancouver. The plan is for the young interpreters of Sarah and Everett to make an appearance as guest stars in this season 6 through flashbacks.

No release date yet, neither for the prequel nor for season 6.
