The film in theaters: Making of by Cédric Kahn

Just a few months later The Goldman Trial, Cédric Kahn is back with his very first comedy, inspired by his experiences, behind the scenes of an eventful shoot. Cinema seen as a political combat sport against a backdrop of nepotism, class violence, mistreatment of extras… as the perfect reverse shot of The American night, demystifying a mythology that the latter worked to make sacred. All with a humor reminiscent of Moretti d’A Bright future.

What’s new at the cinema this week

The film in streaming: Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

Well-known song pastiche on the other side of the Atlantic, “Weird Al” Yankovic is entitled to a completely crazy fake biopic. Mustachioed and in Hawaiian shirts, Daniel Radcliffe plays this polka-loving musician like a rockstar consumed by success. The film cheerfully makes fun of Rocketman Or Bohemian Rhapsody and we even meet Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood, brilliant) or Pablo Escobar. Honestly hilarious.

Series : Echo by Marion Dayre

Echo brings Marvel back to Earth, in its most naturalistic series yet. In a setting in the depths of America, the series takes on rural and social thriller overtones, around a Native American community prey to the New York underworld. Little or no big show. The atmosphere takes precedence over the action, while the shadow of Vincent d’Onofrio’s fabulous Caid looms large. A laudable ambition for a short Marvel series (5 episodes to binge-watch) which changes from Marvel series.

The film on TV: Mission Impossible 7

Tom Cruise vs AI. The plot of the last episode of Mission Impossible had anticipated the news with flair, but not the “Barbenheimer” tsunami which swept away everything in its path this summer, notably preventing Ethan Hawke from doing his crazy stunts in IMAX. While waiting for its revenge in the cinema (filming of MI8 resumed at the end of November), this great pure action shoot is arriving on Canal Plus.

The documentary: Before the words by Joachim Lafosse

We know Joachim Lafosse well, the director of fiction films (his latest drama, A silence, is currently showing), minus the documentarian. In 2010, the Belgian filmmaker placed his camera in a nursery in Gennevilliers to capture the daily life of babies (between crying, screams, babbling, discoveries of language, senses and community life) and the precious work of childcare workers. We wonder what happened to Cédric, 3 years old at the time, the star of this fascinating short (25 mins).
