What does the new “Marvel Spotlight” banner mean at the beginning of Echo?

“We’re bringing Marvel back to street level,” explains the director of the new series, Sydney Freeland.

Released this Wednesday on Disney Plus, the series Echo marks Marvel’s desire to approach the small screen differently. First, by putting the 5 episodes online to binge-watch in one go. Then, by accepting a classification “for adults” (classified TV-MA by the American censorship). A more brutal style and tone that stands out in the rest of the MCU, brought under a whole new banner: Marvel Spotlight.

You certainly noticed this new logo at the start ofEcho. Instead of the usual Marvel logo, this is the logo Marvel Spotlight in retro style and accompanied by a musical soundtrack composed by Michael Giacchino, who took the place.

But what is it Marvel Spotlight ? “It means something more realistic“, confides to Première the director and producer, Sydney Freeland. She specifies:

“We’re bringing Marvel back to street level, with a more down-to-earth story. But ‘Spotlight’ also means you don’t need to have seen 23 previous films in the MCU to understand the series. is a banner that means viewers don’t need to know everything about the MCU to immerse themselves in it.”

In other words, stories on a smaller scale, completely independent, which are not intended to shake up the Marvel Cinematic Universe even if they take place within it.

note that Marvel Spotlight takes its name from a comic book series first introduced by Marvel in 1971, to launch new characters.
