First feature film by Chloé Dumont, Fair Play is an erotic thriller featuring Phoebe Dynevor (The Bridgerton Chronicles) And Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story). Presented at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and celebrated by critics, it was acquired by Netflix for the tidy sum of $20 million. After a limited theatrical release in the United States, it has been available on the platform since October 6.

Secret lovers, Emily and Luke work at the same hedge fund company. When their superior is fired, Luke is seen as his successor but, to everyone’s surprise, Emily is appointed to this position, a promotion that causes great turbulence in their relationship. Presenting her first feature at Sundance, Chloe Domont explained that it was born from the regret that the #MeToo movement had never affected the world of finance. And she took up all the codes of films about New York high finance from 80s (Wall Street in mind) by mixing them with those of the erotic thrillers of the same period to better turn them around. Forgotten the celebration of triumphant masculinity, Fair Play is a story of emasculation rich in ambiguities, starting with this female character (Phoebe Dynevor, demented) brilliantly written because she constantly calls into question the empathy we have for her.
