Where is Constantine 2? Francis Lawrence takes stock

“Then the script will have to be written…”

Announced about a year ago, Constantine 2 is slow to come to fruition. But the director Francis Lawrence today promises that development is still underway, despite some blockages. In an interview with Gamespot, he confided:

Constantine 2 was obviously delayed by the screenwriters’ strike. And we also had to overcome many obstacles to regain control of the character“, he explains, revealing the difficulty of acquiring the rights from Vertigo.

Now that the rights are secure, everything will be able to speed up:

“We’re in control now. Keanu Reeves, Akiva Goldsman and I have been in meetings and thinking about what the story is going to be. And there are other meetings that need to happen along the same lines. Then the script will have to be written. But I really hope that we will manage to do this Constantine 2 and make it a true R-Rated version.”

This is Lawrence’s primary objective for this sequel: “not following the rules to make a PG-13 film in terms of violence, blood, language, sexuality“, as was the case at the time of the first film in agreement with Warner Bros. But the spirit was too dark and Constantine had, despite everything, been classified R-Rated in American theaters. “My big, big regret is that we made a PG-13 movie that was still released R-Rated in theaters.”

This time, Constantine 2 will not make the same mistake and will put his dark thoughts to rest.
