“Who better?” George Miller Comments on Key Cameo in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

There is some logic behind (spoiler)'s brief appearance.

Impossible to go further without blithely spoiling Furiosa: A Mad Max saga. Of course, the scene is short, like “blink at the wrong time and you'll miss it”, but if you don't want to know anything about this prequel Fury Road (2015) before watching the film, it is better to continue reading later…

Furiosa – George Miller: “The story was so good we just had to tell it” (interview)

Even before the release of this new blockbuster, George Miller was in fact questioned in the English-speaking press about Max Rockatansky's cameo. We barely glimpse the character at the end of Anya Taylor-Joy's journey, but this short wink is still important for the Australian filmmaker, who explains having called on Jacob Tomuri, and not Tom Hardy , to play it. Jacob who? This is simply the actor's stunt double for his successful 2015 blockbuster.

“Yes, he's Tom's understudy, he confirms, relayed by ScreenRant. He's also done other crazy stunts throughout his career, you know? He's a stuntman from New Zealand, and since we had already hired him to dub certain action scenes in this film, I said to myself 'Who better?'.”

The idea was to announce the future alliance between Furiosa and Max, played by Charlie Theron and Tom Hardy in Fury Roadbut in quick succession, without it taking up too much space in the young woman's journey, told here over fifteen years.

“The bond that is created between Max and Furiosa was truly the key to Mad Max: Fury Road, continues the filmmaker. Having him appear in this heroine's story, even very briefly, immediately puts their future relationship in the mind of the viewer.”

Now that Furiosa is out, George Miller will be able to work on another prequel to Mad Max, dedicated to Max, this time. With a young actor in place of Tom Hardy, and Anya Taylor-Joy (or her understudy) in a short cameo, just to close the loop?

Choosing Jacob Tomuri also means favoring a member of the team whose personal story was turned upside down by the filming of Mad Max Fury Road, remember fans of the film who saw and re-watched its behind-the-scenes production. Because if the two stars of the film had difficulty getting along on the set, at the time, it was during the shooting of this same blockbuster that Jacob fell in love… with Charlize Theron's understudy , Dayna Grant. Their story is now over, but it is thanks to them that we were able to see the most spectacular set photos of Fury Road.
