Arizona returns in season 20 but without Callie? Explanations!

When Jessica Capshaw will come back in Grey's Anatomy, on the occasion of season 20, it will be solo. No Sarah Ramirez with her. Arizona without Callie? But why ?

“We have a very open policy regarding cast alumni,” new showrunner Meg Marinis tells TVLine. “We're always up for bringing back old characters and having them interact with new characters. But our old ones all have busy careers and schedules… And then Arizona's return will be through a particular story, really tied to Arizona's specialty. So it made sense for her to come back to Seattle without her…”

At least, the showrunner promises that this comeback will be an opportunity to take stock of “Calzona”. What happened to ex-couple Callie and Arizona? Did they find each other? Are they still close? “Of course the others will ask him the question…”

The screenwriter admits that this romance “was such an emblematic relationship of Grey's Anatomy. This is still the case today. When people approach me to talk about it, they are still touched by this relationship. It's amazing that people are still talking about it. Obviously we did something right back then…”

Season 20 of Grey's Anatomy will be launched on March 14 on ABC. It will be seen in France on TF1.
