Why the actor who played Dwight was “unhappy” during The Office

“I was a TV star, but I wanted to be a movie star. It was never enough.”

10 years ago, he was a TV superstar. Dwight Schrute was a favorite character for many fans of The Officeto the point that NBC almost gave him his own series, his spin-off titled “The Farm” and whose first episodes had been integrated into the final season. Rainn Wilson didn’t have the career he deserved and today he confesses that it made him “rather unhappy” for years. Interviewed by the podcast Maher’s Club Random, he confesses:

“When I was in The Office, I spent several really unhappy years. Because for me, it wasn’t enough. I was on a hit show, Emmy nominated every year, making a lot of money. People loved that. But I couldn’t enjoy it all. I didn’t understand why I hadn’t taken the leap and why I hadn’t become a movie star! Why I didn’t become the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell…”

It must be said that at the same time, the other two main roles of The Office exploded on the big screen, whether Steve Carrellor even John Krasinsky. Rainn Wilson he remained confined to the role of Dwight Schrute;

“I was making hundreds of thousands of dollars and I wanted to make millions. I was a TV star, but I wanted to be a movie star. It was never enough.”

Rainn Wilson played Dwight Schrute for all nine seasons of The Officefailing his attempts to make it to the big screen with The Rocker in 2008 and Great in 2010, which flopped at the box office. After the cult series ended, in 2013 Wilson starred in the short-lived Fox drama Backstrom and made appearances in Mom And Star Trek: Discovery basically. He will remain despite everything as the hero of the end of The Officesince the last season and the grand finale are very largely centered on Dwight, the new boss of Dunder Mufflin.
