Wish: the latest Disney is already a hit in theaters in France

Asha and her lucky star have already attracted more than 200,000 spectators to French theaters. An excellent score which places the animated film at the top of the French box office this week.

After a catastrophic launch at the US box office and poor forecasts, wish relies on the international market to make its butter. And it’s starting well in France. Despite disappointing reviews, the latest Disney release has accumulated 217,222 admissions in theaters at the end of its official release day. A very good score, somewhat distorted by the numerous previews which have been packed since last weekend all over France, and which have attracted 140,000 spectators alone! To which we therefore add the 76,000 entries on Wednesday.

No matter how you look at these figures, the important thing is to note that wish made his debut in France perfectly. Knowing that the latest films from the Disney Animation studio (Raya and the Last Dragon in 2021 and Avalonia in 2022) having been released directly in streaming in France on Disney Plus, we have to go back to the pre-COVID era, with Frozen 2 in 2019, to compare. Elsa and Anna had 361,000 admissions in an equivalent number of cinemas, proof that Asha and her lucky star are not that far from the big hits. Besides, the film already starts much better thanElementary, the Disney Pixar of 2023, which had 116,727 admissions last June.

wish has therefore launched its holiday season perfectly and should continue to be a hit at the French box office until the Christmas holidays.

In second place in the ranking, The braid also attracted crowds. Laetitia Colombani’s film has already attracted 70,000 spectators in 556 theaters, driven by previews which were also sold out (42,000 admissions).

In third place, we find the romantic drama Time to lovecarried by Anaïs Demoustier, quite far behind, with 22,992 admissions, but in a smaller number of 353 cinemas.
