Zac Efron reveals he was depressed after Baywatch

“This experience ruined me,” confides the actor.

Zac Efron experienced a meteoric rise in the early 2000s thanks to High School Musical. But being propelled to stardom in Hollywood is not without risks. Some of his roles have left their mark on the actor’s personal life. His participation in Baywatch: Baywatch in 2017, cost him a psychological drowning.

It was in 2006 that Zac Efron takes off thanks to the Disney Channel project, High School Musicalin which he devotes himself to sung choreographies with Vanessa Hudgens And Ashley Tisdale. During the same period, he was able to develop his acting skills, particularly in Hairspray (2007) and 17 years again (2009) in which he plays the younger version of Mike, played by the late Matthew Perry. It was in 2017 that he joined the cast of Baywatchwith Dwayne Johnson, Alexandra Daddario And Priyanka Chopra. The film is obviously based on the hit 1989 series with David Hasselhoff and the iconic CJ Parker played by Pamela Anderson.

Zac Efron takes the plunge by addressing Men’s Healthabout his role as a rescuer:

The physique I have in Baywatch, I don’t know if it’s achievable again. I had too little water in my body. It looks so fake, it looks like special effects. This required strong diuretics (..) I began to have insomnia and fell into severe depression for a while. This experience fucked me up. I had a hard time refocusing“.

This physical transformation echoes his last role, that of Kevin Von Erich, one of the brothers of the Von Erich siblings, known for their success in the world of wrestling. In Iron Claw, Zac Efron is physically impressive – the performance will perhaps earn him a nomination at the next Academy Awards.

As for his future, next year he will release the romantic comedy A Family Affairin which he stars alongside Joey King, Nicole Kidman, Liza Koshy And Kathy Bateswhich will be released soon on Netflix.
